Do you want to go to Tokyo, Japan? Are you on a budget? Do you think it’s going to be too expensive? No worries, you can stay within your budget without losing an arm and a leg. I too am constantly on a budget. Luckily, that did not stop me from visiting Toyko, Japan during my spring break.
On April 17, 2018, TBC held it’s Spring semester Internship Showcase event. Joined by nearly 50 fellow professionals & peers, TBC students presented on their experiences interning in Beijing this semester. We had students working in different organizations including the US Embassy, Colombian Embassy, United Family Hospital, Edelman, Project Pengyou, Branditat, Bankorus JiTu Studios, JingJobs, and Beijing Field Studies. Travel has been easy to come by since my arrival in China. Beijing has allowed me to get around not only other parts of China but also around Asia. I took my opportunity to plan a trip to Thailand for my spring break this year… I had other options such as Laos, Australia, Tokyo and Seoul among others but ultimately I went with Thailand.

TBC students took the opportunity to travel throughout Asia this spring break! Whether they stayed in China or traveled out of the country to explore! This is a slight breakdown of their trips and some cities our 2018 Spring Students visited during the break!
The Beijing Center (TBC) has finalized a cooperation agreement with the Colombian Embassy in Beijing, approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombia, for TBC students who hold a Colombian passport to have the opportunity to intern during their study abroad in China with TBC.
TBC invites leading scholars, thinkers and experts to address an eclectic range of topics related to China in an one-hour format as part of TBC’s Lecture Series. On Wednesday, March 14, 2018, Dr. Francis T. Hannafey S.J. gave a lecture on Pu’er tea to students.
After only being in Beijing 3 weeks, it was time for the Yunnan excursion. I wasn’t too familiar with Beijing yet, so how was I supposed to adjust to different villages and cities where locals speak their local dialects?! Nonetheless, I was excited for the upcoming challenges and experiences. The Yunnan excursion is a two week trip planned by The Beijing Center every Spring semester around Chinese New Year break. The itinerary is packed and filled from start to finish! We were on a tight schedule to visit and learn about a few of the 56 minority groups in China. We were in Yunnan to learn, explore, and make friends we’d never forget.
Learning Chinese before coming to China would seem somewhat like a good idea, right? Well it would help you initially when coming to China. However, I, myself didn’t learn any Chinese before arriving this past semester.
I did perfectly fine, well sort of.
Studying abroad is an opportunity that I believe will help to strengthen and build a foundation for my future endeavors. I would like to become an international pop culture writer/editor and content creator. My Haitian heritage has influenced my interest in learning and reporting about countries and cultures abroad. It has helped me redefine social norms and beauty standards for myself by challenging me to appreciate a culture other than Western culture.
