COLLEGE OF THE HOLY CROSS AND THE BEIJING CENTER SIGN FALL 2020 STUDY ABROAD AGREEMENT

College of the Holy Cross and The Beijing Center (TBC) sign a partnership agreement offering Holy Cross undergraduate freshman and sophomore students, admission for TBC’s Fall 2020 study abroad program.

During the Fall 2020 TBC program, Holy Cross students will enroll in 15 credit semester courses, while living on the campus of the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE). TBC will arrange double-room housing in a Western-style residence hall at UIBE.

Upon completion of the Fall 2020 semester TBC program, Holy Cross students will receive an official certificate through the school of record, UIBE, detailing the course credit transfer for their bachelor’s degree continuation at Holy Cross. In addition to the classes taken at TBC, Holy Cross students can also choose to take online classes offered by Holy Cross alongside in-person classes.

While studying abroad has been heavily impacted by the pandemic, alternative academic and cultural experiences are available. “We understand that studying abroad is a crucial part of our students’ academic experience and personal growth, so by offering an alternative study abroad program during their time in China, we hope that it enhances their studies and cultural experience a little more,” Dr. Simon Koo, Executive Director of The Beijing Center.

This program is the first time TBC will host Holy Cross students, and the first time TBC and Holy Cross have entered a partnership. As part of the program, Holy Cross students will be enrolled in TBC’s American Pathway Program (APP), alongside local Chinese students.

Founded in 1998, The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies (TBC) is a center of higher education in Mainland China committed to fostering mutual understanding between China and other cultures through cultural exchange, education and research. What makes us unique is our placement in a long and storied tradition of Jesuit education, one that teaches us that true cultural engagement starts first with friendship.

The American Pathway Program at TBC is focused and rigorous, designed for Chinese students who are interested in obtaining a bachelor’s degree in the United States. American Pathway students spend one to two years taking transferable courses at The Beijing Center, while preparing themselves for their entry into university in the US.

The Beijing Center continually works to establish articulation agreements with undergraduate institutions around the world to facilitate Chinese student transfers into bachelor’s degree programs. For more information on such agreements, contact us by email at admissions@thebeijingcenter.org or call +86-10-8415-8816.

Acrobatics, Pandas, Temple of Heaven, and More: Weekend Excursions in Beijing

The past few weekends have been some of the most exciting of the entire semester, full of trips to the zoo, mountain hikes, ancient parks, and more! Our first trip out of many was a visit to the Beijing Zoo. I had mentioned earlier in the semester that I wanted to see some pandas, since I was in China after all, and our TBC friend Andy made it happen.

Weekend Trip to Shanghai

Spending a whole semester in Beijing, I knew I had to make the trip down south and check out Shanghai, and the city certainly lived up to the expectations. Everyone describes Shanghai as this super futuristic metropolis, and after spending a weekend there I understand why it has this reputation.
