TBC’S FIRST VIRTUAL INTERNSHIP SHOWCASE – SUMMER 2020

The current changes in the global education environment due to COVID-19 has prompted many academic institutions and universities to adapt and modify the way they educate their students. Starting this summer, TBC began offering virtual internship experiences to students interested in China and its growing business market.

COLLEGE OF THE HOLY CROSS AND THE BEIJING CENTER SIGN FALL 2020 STUDY ABROAD AGREEMENT

College of the Holy Cross and The Beijing Center (TBC) sign a partnership agreement offering Holy Cross undergraduate freshman and sophomore students, admission for TBC’s Fall 2020 study abroad program. During the Fall 2020 TBC program, Holy Cross students will enroll in 15 credit semester courses, while living on the campus of the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE). TBC will arrange double-room housing in a Western-style residence hall at UIBE.

THE UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH AND THE BEIJING CENTER SIGN FALL 2020 STUDY ABROAD AGREEMENT

The University of the South and The Beijing Center (TBC) signed a partnership agreement admitting a specified number of qualified Sewanee undergraduate students to TBC’s Fall 2020 study abroad program. As part of the exchange program at TBC this Fall 2020, Sewanee students will enroll in 15-16 credits per semester, with a credit transfer to Sewanee upon successful completion based on the academic requirements of the TBC courses.

UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME AND THE BEIJING CENTER SIGN FALL 2020 STUDY ABROAD AGREEMENT

The University of Notre Dame and The Beijing Center (TBC) signed a partnership agreement guaranteeing Notre Dame Chinese undergraduate students’ admission to the academic programs offered by TBC during the Fall 2020 term, upon meeting the specific requirements. TBC has hosted student study abroad programs since 1998, providing immersion into Chinese culture and uniquely tailored, accredited academic courses, specific to TBC’s study abroad program.

THE SILK ROAD EXCURSION

A couple of weeks ago, I had the very special opportunity to adventure along the Silk Road with other students from my college for about 13 days. ChinaContact created a wonderful trip for us that definitely enhanced our short-term stay with The Beijing Center! The excursion was filled with many incredible experiences as we journeyed from Xi’an all the way to Kashgar, making stops in Tianshui, Lanzhou, Xia’he, Dunhuang, and Turpan along the way.

When I arrived at TBC in January I wasn’t really sure what I’d be doing, but upon arrival, I was asked to help with the research aspects of The Beijing Center: to plan and take on a research project and to help plan some events around research activities. So, I was able to do that and learned a lot about Matteo Ricci. I helped to re-publish a book, of some of Matteo Ricci’s letters translated into English and to organize a panel discussion about the letters of Matteo Ricci and their significance, both for scholars and for expatriates living in China today as a spiritual source.

Can you briefly introduce yourself?

Hello, I’m Nicole Marchesi. I’m a summer intern abroad student with The Beijing Center. I’m a student at Loyola Marymount University with a major in marketing and a minor in Chinese.

INTERNSHIP SHOWCASE – SUMMER 2019

On Wednesday, July 17th, TBC’s Intern Abroad summer participants introduced their experience working in Beijing at the Summer Internship Showcase. TBC’s summer cohort of student-interns have been working hard for the last two months, learning how to collaborate and communicate in multicultural workplaces. They have been working in a variety of industries and environments from non-profit to SOE to tech startup to multinational PR firms.

My name is Michelle Chin. I attend University of San Francisco and I am currently in my last year of college. I will be graduating December 2019. I am an American born Chinese that was born and raised in San Francisco. I went to school all my life in the city and never left until I came to China.

INTERNSHIP SHOWCASE – SPRING 2019

On Saturday, April 27, 2019, TBC, in collaboration with JingJobs – a bilingual platform for young professionals, hosted the Spring Job and Internships Expo. The event brought together the Beijing expat and young professionals community, along with organizations around Beijing to share about internships experiences and job opportunities. Coinciding with the Internship Showcase and Job Fair, two workshops with experienced professionals, providing practical skills for getting dream jobs were also held.

STUDENT INTERVIEW: MATTHEW SWEETMAN

My name is Matthew Sweetman. I was born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin, a moderately sized city in between Chicago and Milwaukee. I have been studying Chinese for some time and now and in high school I had the opportunity to travel to Beijing with my 老师 laoshi. However, the trip was out of my price range so I could not go.

2019 TBC STUDENT’S SPRING BREAK!

TBC Student’s had the chance to travel around Asia and or a few countries outside of Asia during their spring break. Here’s a quick synopsis of their week-long trips on their opportunity to venture out and explore the neighboring countries of China and other countries that they touched base at!

YUNNAN ACADEMIC EXCURSION

I went down to the Yunnan Province for two weeks with my peers that are in the same academic program. We went to many places in just a short amount of time and it was a fun and exciting experience. It all started off with Kunming, Yi village, Jianshui, Hani village, Jinghong, Dai village, Lijiang, and ended with Dali. Each city gave me a different taste of what China is like. At first, I was skeptical on going on this trip from day to day, it felt like I was backpacking around southern China, but I’m glad that I experienced this trip. On this past Tuesday, November 27th, TBC brought together the Beijing expat and young professionals community along with host organizations to discuss the significance and characteristics of a successful internship program and celebrate the achievements of TBC student interns at our semester internship showcase.

On Sunday, November 25th, TBC held its 20th Anniversary and Thanksgiving Gala to celebrate 20 years of promoting mutual understanding between China and the West through friendship, research, and exchange.
