The University of the South and The Beijing Center (TBC) signed a partnership agreement admitting a specified number of qualified Sewanee undergraduate students to TBC’s Fall 2020 study abroad program.

As part of the exchange program at TBC this Fall 2020, Sewanee students will enroll in 15-16 credits per semester, with a credit transfer to Sewanee upon successful completion based on the academic requirements of the TBC courses. The credit transfer will be represented by an official transcript for each student through TBC’s school of record, the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE).

This is the first partnership for a study abroad academic program between TBC and Sewanee. The partnership comes at an opportune time and an evolving global education environment, and will allow remaining students in mainland China, to continue their studies for the duration of their time abroad.

In light of the global academic changes occurring, students and educational institutions have to adapt quickly and efficiently. “TBC’s Fall 2020 program and partnership with Sewanee, is designed to provide students with a quality education and further cultural immersion during their prolonged time abroad.”

Through TBC’s American Pathway Program (APP), enrolled Sewanee students will be living on the campus of UIBE for the duration of the program, joining local Chinese students also enrolled in the APP to further facilitate their US college education.

Founded in 1998, The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies (TBC) is a center of higher education in Mainland China committed to fostering mutual understanding between China and other cultures through cultural exchange, education and research. What makes us unique is our placement in a long and storied tradition of Jesuit education, one that teaches us that true cultural engagement starts first with friendship.

The American Pathway Program at TBC is focused and rigorous, designed for Chinese students who are interested in obtaining a bachelor’s degree in the United States. American Pathway students spend one to two years taking transferable courses at The Beijing Center, while preparing themselves for their entry into university in the US.

The Beijing Center continually works to establish articulation agreements with undergraduate institutions around the world to facilitate Chinese student transfers into bachelor’s degree programs. For more information on such agreements, contact us by email at [email protected] or call +86-10-8415-8816.

This is the first American edition of Anderson’s fascinating account of Britain’s first diplomatic mission to China in 1792. By the end of the eighteenth century the East India Company had been trading with Chinese merchants for two hundred years, but in a strictly limited way.
