TIPS FOR LEARNING MANDARIN CHINESE AS A BEGINNER

Learning a new language is a challenge, and I speak from my own experience. My native language is Spanish, and I also speak English and a little French. I have been learning English since I was a child and French, in some ways, is similar to Spanish. However, in my opinion, Mandarin is another world.

On July 16, 2021, TBC held its series event East Meets West Talks, bringing together a diverse group of speakers who shed light on a pressing global issue – environmental destruction and Caring for our Common Home – planet Earth. Read more below or watch the full event recording here.

Dr. Carlos Zepeda from the Laudato Si’ Research Institute (LSRI) at Campion Hall, Oxford University began the discussion with a presentation on the current challenges of the climate and biodiversity crisis.

CARING FOR OUR COMMON HOME – VIRTUAL EVENT

Part of “East Meets West Talks” series, The Beijing Center presents “Caring for Our Common Home.” Bringing together speakers representing organizations in the UK, the US, and China, our discussion will focus on caring for our common home, offering insights into climate and biodiversity, the Encyclical Laudato Si’, and our responsibility to the planet we inhabit and future generations.

THE UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH AND THE BEIJING CENTER SIGN GUARANTEED TRANSFER ADMISSION AGREEMENT

On July 16, 2021, The University of the South and The Beijing Center (TBC) signed an admission agreement to further support international students’ transition to an undergraduate program in the US. The Guaranteed Admission Program agreement will be in effect for five years, guiding students to successfully complete their bachelor’s degree at the University of the South, following preparation at TBC.

SPRING 2021 AMERICAN PATHWAY PROGRAM SEMESTER CONCLUDES

Another semester has come to an end as our American Pathway Program students continue their studies at their respective US universities after a notable and eventful experience at The Beijing Center.

Beginning in Fall 2020, the American Pathway Program has been hosting Chinese students pursuing bachelor’s degrees from US partner universities.

SERVICE-LEARNING: ENGAGE, LEARN, AND ACT – VIRTUAL EVENT RECAP

On June 16, 2021, The Beijing Center held an online event as part of its East Meets West Talks series. The event introduced three speakers who addressed the pressing importance of service-learning as community involvement and student engagement in higher education. The discussion centered around the ways in which service-learning is being implemented in different communities and institutions.

ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS AND TEACHING SOCIAL VALUES FOR SUSTAINABILITY AT TBC

In light of ongoing global environmental awareness, TBC has established educational practices and lectures that encourage pro-environmental values and incorporate social values that nurture the Care of our Common Home spirit. A crucial component of TBC’s environmental education is ethical analysis and how students can learn through practice and theory, beginning with increasing awareness of local efforts towards sustainability and enriched living quality on Earth.

Part of “East Meets West Talks” series, The Beijing Center presents “Service-Learning: Engage, Learn, and Act.” Our discussion will focus on the implementation of service-learning and ways to actively support local communities, with a conscious effort towards cultural understanding.
