The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies entered into partnership with the University of International Business and Economics in 2002, moving into UIBE’s Ningyuan building in a southern corner of the school. TBC has two metro stops and fifteen bus stops within easy walking distance, as well as over fifty restaurants in the nearby area.
TBC’s office area is comprised of three parts: classrooms, offices, and The Anton Library for Chinese Studies. More information on UIBE’s campus and TBC housing can be found by clicking here.
CLASSROOMS
TBC’s classrooms are named after famous Chinese and Western Jesuit scholars, such as Matteo Ricci and Xu Guangqi.
All classrooms are equipped with whiteboards and screenboards, are decorated with historical and Jesuit-relevant artifacts and images, have projector capacities and comfortable chairs, and are also equipped with air filtration and quality control technology.
One of our newest classrooms is the Tea Room, which is a space to share culture in a more intimate and traditional setting. It can accommodate up to fifteen people, with space for two tea masters.
THE ANTON LIBRARY FOR CHINESE STUDIES
The Anton Library has over 27,000 volumes, two lounge areas decorated after the provinces of Yunnan and Tibet, and is decorated with historical and cultural artifacts. More information about The Anton Library can be found by clicking here.
OPEN OFFICE
The Open Office area is where TBC staff work and where guests can tour our extensive collection of historical and cultural treasures. It encapsulates the Director’s Office, which has items spanning thousands of years, the Hutong Hallway, which was constructed in the style of Beijing’s traditional alleyway housing, the Conference Room with dozens of original copies of Jesuit-made maps, a lounge, a general desk area, and the Departmental Offices. One of the most popular spots to find students is in the Student Life office, which is always open to offer students water, snacks, and a place to chat.
