University of Notre Dame and The Beijing Center Sign Fall 2020 Study Abroad Agreement

The University of Notre Dame and The Beijing Center (TBC) signed a partnership agreement guaranteeing Notre Dame Chinese undergraduate students’ admission to the academic programs offered by TBC during the Fall 2020 term, upon meeting the specific requirements.
TBC has hosted student study abroad programs since 1998, providing immersion into Chinese culture and uniquely tailored, accredited academic courses, specific to TBC’s study abroad program. This partnership provides an alternative study abroad opportunity for China mainland students unable to travel to the US during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Notre Dame students have taken part in TBC’s semester and yearlong study abroad programs from the start, belonging to TBC’s alumni network of over 2,000 students since 1998. This Fall 2020 semester, Notre Dame students will join TBC as part of the American Pathway Program (APP), along with local Chinese students working towards their bachelor’s degree as well. While living on the campus of UIBE, Notre Dame students will have the opportunity to enroll in up to 16 semester credits at TBC, transferable to Notre Dame upon successful completion.
Through this partnership, students will be able to continue their studies in the most agreeable manner possible. “While the pandemic has altered the study abroad environment, we work towards developing academic opportunities that take advantage of the geographical constraints and adapt to the necessary health regulations while meeting the academic needs of our students,” Dr. Simon Koo, Executive Director of The Beijing Center.

The American Pathway Program at TBC is focused and rigorous, designed for Chinese students who are interested in obtaining a bachelor’s degree in the United States. American Pathway students spend one to two years taking transferable courses at The Beijing Center, while preparing themselves for their entry into university in the US.
