Marquette University and The Beijing Center Sign Transfer Admissions Agreement

On February 15, 2021, Marquette University and The Beijing Center signed a Guaranteed Admission Agreement. Upon meeting the necessary academic and disciplinary requirements, students will be guaranteed admission to Marquette University to pursue their bachelor’s degree.

This agreement offers students an extended opportunity for a TBC cultural experience while also pursuing their intended studies through Marquette University. In addition to hosting many Marquette study abroad students over the years, this partnership allows students to complete their bachelor’s degree at Marquette, rather than just studying abroad for a shorter period and taking a smaller selection of TBC classes.

“Our newest partnership with Marquette University is a great way for students to become fully invested in their studies and to gain a more holistic cultural experience. We are working towards elevating their student and academic experience through a multidimensional approach to receiving their bachelor’s degree,” Dr. Simon Koo, Executive Director of TBC.

The admission process of this program will be based on direct advisement from Marquette with the students to ensure that students meet both TBC and Marquette’s academic requirements for a smooth transition. Students are required to enroll in their Marquette degree program within three years of initial enrollment in the Guaranteed Admission program with a maximum of 60 credits applicable to their bachelor’s degree. Additionally, international students will need to demonstrate their English proficiency by completing 30 credits of TBC English courses or submitting standardized English test scores.

As part of this program, students will work with their TBC and Marquette transfer advisor to guide them in successfully completing the program and meeting the necessary requirements, such as maintaining a 3.0 GPA on all transferable TBC coursework and following all additional guidelines as set by Marquette University and the corresponding College students are looking to complete their studies through.

Founded in 1998, The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies (TBC) is a center of higher education in Mainland China committed to fostering mutual understanding between China and other cultures through cultural exchange, education and research. What makes us unique is our placement in a long and storied tradition of Jesuit education, one that teaches us that true cultural engagement starts first with friendship.

The American Pathway Program at TBC is focused and rigorous, designed for Chinese students who are interested in obtaining a bachelor’s degree in the United States. American Pathway students spend one to two years taking transferable courses at The Beijing Center while preparing themselves for their entry into university in the US.

The Beijing Center continually works to establish articulation agreements with undergraduate institutions around the world to facilitate Chinese student transfers into bachelor’s degree programs.
