Loyola Marymount University and The Beijing Center Sign Transfer Admissions Agreement

July 24, 2020

Loyola Marymount University and The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies (TBC) signed an articulation agreement guaranteeing TBC students who meet specific requirements to receive fall admission at LMU.

LMU enrolls over 600 transfer students annually with about 20% being international students.

This transfer agreement provides a new pathway for well-prepared Chinese students to transfer from The Beijing Center to select programs at LMU. Programs included in the agreement are from the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts, College of Communications and Fine Arts, and College of Business Administration.

LMU and TBC have a long-standing partnership. Since 1998, LMU students and faculty have participated in study abroad and short-term exchange programs in China at The Beijing Center. With this new transfer agreement, a new channel of exchange is open for LMU to receive and welcome Chinese students from TBC.

“We are so pleased to celebrate this new partnership to help make the transfer process easier and seamless for TBC’s Chinese students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree at LMU. The partnership is consistent with TBC’s mission of promoting cross-cultural exchange rooted in Jesuit education,” said TBC Executive Director Dr. Simon Koo.

In addition to the admission guarantee, the agreement allows LMU to provide students at The Beijing Center access to transfer and pre-admission advising, Writing Center support, and international student support services. LMU will also waive the application fee for eligible students.

Founded in 1998, The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies (TBC) is a center of higher education in Mainland China committed to fostering mutual understanding between China and other cultures through cultural exchange, education and research. What makes us unique is our placement in a long and storied tradition of Jesuit education, one that teaches us that true cultural engagement starts first with friendship.

The American Pathway Program at TBC is focused and rigorous, designed for Chinese students who are interested in obtaining a bachelor’s degree in the United States. American Pathway students spend one to two years taking transferable courses at The Beijing Center, while preparing themselves for their entry into university in the US.

The Beijing Center continually works to establish articulation agreements with undergraduate institutions around the world to facilitate Chinese student transfers into bachelor’s degree programs.
